Graeme according to Chris
Graeme Arnfield, or as he was born Sheila Murphy, hails from a small fruit based town in rural Cheshire, where he was once keynote speaker at the village plum festival. His first album ‘I Slept with Boy George’ was released to critical acclaim and a subpoena from Mr. George’s lawyers. Unfortunately for Graeme his success didn’t last as his follow up albums ‘I Suck Eggs’ and ‘Queercore Steamboat’ sold poorly and were universally banned as re-hashings of his illustrious early work. In a fit of depression Graeme took to the one thing that he had found solace in whilst famous: Metal Detectors. After mistakenly answering an advert in the paper for what he believed to be a club of like minded people, Graeme found himself in the comedy troupe, where his whimsical John Waters-esque wit and light-hearted campy attitude breathed new life into an overly political, Charlie Brooker impressing comedy show that possessed a real dearth of innuendo. Graeme now lives in Bangor with his two dogs and is a confirmed bachelor, despite having once been married to Liza Minnelli.
Bio
Graeme Arnfield has 7337 songs on his iPod, 3 boxes full of unread existential novels and a lifetime of being funny. Founding the revolutionary podcast and lunchtime activities club CupboardCast with members of The Metal Detector Club, he found his comedy feet writing many wonderfully off beat sketches on varying topics from Morrissey to demented news reporters. As well as sketches, Graeme was largely responsible for the music found in CupboardCast; these hours spent slaving over bedroom PC’s making audio beds for absurdist monologues and sound collages out of one show dialogue made him the perfect candidate to produce The Metal Detector Club’s first EP “Have A Little Cry”.He is currently an inspiring filmmaker and video artist studying film at York St. John University where Chris Morris alumni and artist in her own rites Julia Davis honed her skills. His off-brand variant of surreal and darkly satirical comedy is sure to delight audiences throughout the festival. As a result of lying too much as a child, his past has become as much a mystery to him and to everyone else. Did he used to collect keys? Probably. Did he once watch Douglas Gordon’s 24 hr psycho in its entirety one day? Probably not. Is he appearing in Camden Cringe the debut show by The Metal Detector Club a fine rabble of young talented comedians? Yes, certainly.
